About frame estimation of growth functions and robust prediction in bioprocess modeling ArchiMer
Krichen, Emna; Rapaport, A.; Fouilland, Eric.
We address the problem of determining functional framing from experimental data points in view of robust time-varying predictions, which is of crucial importance in bioprocess monitoring. We propose a method that provides guaranteed functional bounds, instead of sets of parameters values for growth functions such as the classical Monod or Haldane functions commonly used in bioprocess modeling. We illustrate the applicability of the method with bioreactor simulations in batch and continuous mode, as well as on real data. We also present two extensions of the method adding flexibility in its application, and discuss its efficiency in providing guaranteed state estimations.

Alternatives for analysis of performance data and ranking of Charolais x Nellore crossbred bulls in performance tests R. Bras. Zootec.
Toral,Fábio Luiz Buranelo; Alencar,Maurício Mello de.
It was evaluated alternatives for analysis of performance records and ranking of Charolais x Zebu crossbred bulls. Data of weight at six ages and average daily weight gain in eight periods of 883 21/32 Charolais + 11/32 Nellore bulls in performance tests were used. The direct additive genetic values were predicted in single trait analysis using animal models with classificatory fixed effects of contemporary groups and age of dam at calving and age of animal at weighing as linear covariable, depending on the trait. As random effects, it was considered the direct additive genetic effect, the permanent maternal environmental and residual effects for all traits. Phenotypic values adjusted for fixed effects included in the model of each trait were also...

Elasticity moduli in round wooden beams of Pinus caribaea REA
Zangiácomo,André L.; Christoforo,André L.; Lahr,Francisco A. R..
ABSTRACT This research aimed at estimating both longitudinal (E) and shear (G) elasticity moduli of round structural-sized beams made of Pinus caribaea timber, verifying thus the validity of the G = E/ 20 relationship established by the Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 7190: 1997 (Designing of Wooden Structures). We tested twenty pieces of green wood with average length, diameter and conicity of 750 cm, 30 cm and 4%, respectively. Two static bending tests were applied at three points of each piece, being nondestructive and using different distances between supports. In the first trial, the length and diameter relationship (L/ d) was set as being equal to 24; yet in the second test, it was set at 12. The elasticity moduli were estimated by a successive use of...

Genetic parameters and alternatives for evaluation and ranking of Nellore young bulls in pasture performance tests R. Bras. Zootec.
Fragomeni,Breno de Oliveira; Scalez,Daiane Cristina Becker; Toral,Fábio Luiz Buranelo; Bergmann,José Aurélio Garcia; Pereira,Idalmo Garcia; Costa,Paula Souza Teixeira da.
The objective of this study was to estimate (co)variance components for weight at 550 days, average daily gain and an index with both traits, and to compare alternatives for evaluation and ranking of Nellore young bulls in pasture performance tests. The heritability estimates were 0.73, 0.31 and 0.44 for weight at 550 days, average daily gain and index, respectively. Animals were ranked according to their predicted breeding values or the phenotypic deviations in relation to the mean of the test. Although the correlations between breeding values and phenotypic deviations were high, there were differences in the number of animals selected in common when the selection criteria were the predicted breeding values or the phenotypic deviations. Mixed models are...

Modeling the effect of age at calving × breed group of dam's interaction on weaning weight of Charolais-Zebu crossbred calves R. Bras. Zootec.
Toral,Fábio Luiz Buranelo; Torres Júnior,Roberto Augusto de Almeida; Lopes,Paulo Sávio; Silva,Luiz Otávio Campos da; Reis Filho,João Cruz.
The objective of this study was to evaluate alternatives for modeling the interaction between age of dam at calving (AOD) and the dam genetic group (DGG) on the weaning weight (W225) of Charolais-Zebu (Ch-Z) crossbred calves. Data from 56,965 crossbred calves were analyzed by the least square method. Regression coefficients for age of dam at calving were estimated nested into each class of the dam genetic group (CLA model); for age of dam at calving × dam Charolais percentage (age of dam at calving × FCh) and age of dam at calving × dam heterozygosity (age of dam at calving × FH) (FChFH model); for age of dam at calving × dam Charolais percentage (FCh model); for age of dam at calving × FH (FH model); or only for age of dam at calving (NINT model)....

Modeling the effect of the age of dam at calving on the weaning weight of Charolais-Zebu crossbred calves R. Bras. Zootec.
Toral,Fábio Luiz Buranelo; Torres Júnior,Roberto Augusto de Almeida; Lopes,Paulo Sávio; Silva,Luiz Otávio Campos da; Reis Filho,João Cruz.
The objective of this study was to evaluate alternatives for modeling the age of dam at calving (AOD) effect on the weaning weight of Charolais-Zebu crossbred calves. Data from 56,965 calves were analyzed, using statistical models considering the fixed effects of the contemporary groups, sire and dam genetic groups, and AOD. The AOD effect was fitted to models using annual age classes, and ordinary quadratic to quintic-ordered polynomials (OP) or segmented polynomials (SP) with two, three, four, six and twelve evenly spaced intervals. In the case of segmented polynomials, general linear and quadratic effects and only one quadratic additional term from each knot were considered. The AOD effects were nested within sex of calf in all cases. According to the...
